The FY 2027 budget request (released April 3, 2026) proposes hundreds of millions in cuts across Indian Country housing, education, and economic development: the Indian Housing Block Grant cut by more than $489M to $621M, elimination of the Native Hawaiian Housing Block Grant, an 87% cut to IHS Sanitation Facilities Construction, and a 75% cut to the Special Diabetes Program for Indians — partially offset by a $1.1B IHS increase. Congressional appropriators now determine what becomes law.
